  • The death toll due to the severe flooding that has been affecting several parts of Kenya and the capital, Nairobi, since 6 March, is increasing.
  • According to national authorities and media reports, as of 18 March, 71 have died, of whom 36 in the Nairobi area, 19 in the Eastern region, eight in the Rift Valley, four in Nyanza, three in Coast, and one in the Central region, mainly by the overflow of the Nairobi and Ngong Rivers. In addition, at least 2 622 people have been displaced and sheltered, and several homes and roads have been destroyed, damage to power lines and water infrastructures has been reported.
  • Over the next 48 hours, more rainfall is expected over western and southern Kenya.
