  • Severe weather has been affecting the Dominican Republic since 7 April, causing widespread flooding and the overflowing of rivers, that resulted in casualties and damage.
  • According to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), as of 18 April, 12 people have died, two people have been injured, 44 070 people have been displaced and affected, with 1 448 assisted. Widespread damage has also been reported to houses, roads and bridges.
    The Directorate of the Emergency Operations Centre (COE) of the Government of the Dominican Republic, as of 19 April, issued a yellow alert level for thunderstorms for Puerto Plata and San José de Ocoa provinces in north-eastern and central Dominican Republic.
  • Over the next 48 hours, local showers and thunderstorms, and gusty winds, are expected in the western part of the country.
