  • Since 30 April, heavy rainfall has been affecting north-eastern Brazil (in particular, the Pernambuco and Paraiba states), causing floods and triggering landslides that have resulted in fatalities, displacement, and damage.
  • The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports, as of 4 May, six fatalities and 9 540 people displaced across 27 municipalities in Pernambuco. In Paraíba, 600 people have been displaced across 13 municipalities and a total of 16 100 people have been affected.
  • Paraíba has further declared a state of emergency.
  • Over the next 48 hours, more moderate to heavy rainfall with local thunderstorms is still forecast over north-eastern Brazil. On 6 May, there is a yellow alert for heavy rainfall across the northeast.
